It’s autumn once again! September is turning into October, and since the 19th century, this usually means it’s time for the “Oktoberfest” in Munich, Bavaria, the traditional and world-famous beer festival and funfair.

Millions of fans from all over the world come to visit the largest folk festival (Volksfest) of the world. It usually takes place every year on the “Theresienwiese,” the 4,500,000 sq ft large fairground in Munich, the capital of Bavaria in Germany.

Oktoberfest canceled due to the pandemic

Unfortunately, due to the COVID pandemic, many things are not going as usual this year. This is also the case for the 187th Oktoberfest, which has been cancelled for the second year in a row.

During a press conference, Munich's Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter, explained the decision and called the potential risk for contracting the Coronavirus there "simply too great.”

New Oktoberfest date for 2022

However, according to Lord Mayer Reiter, there is "light at the end of the long pandemic tunnel." the good news is: The next date for the Oktoberfest 2022 has already been fixed and published: Instead of this year, the 187th Oktoberfest (also affectionately known as “Wiesn”) is going to take place from September 17th to October 3rd, 2022. So, don’t put your “Dirndls” and “Lederhosn” too far out of reach – they will get their chance soon!
